Building Your Self Esteem

Self Esteem /ˌsɛlfɛˈstiːm/

noun: self-esteem

  1. confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect.

Most of us may feel that our confidence in our own worth and abilities is lower than it could be. It’s fine to acknowledge that we have weaknesses and could do some things better, but do we take the time to notice when we’ve done well, are good at things and are people who bring real value to the people around us? Building confidence is a long journey, we can always be working at it. Being confident is also not the same as being arrogant. It’s one thing to go around thinking you are better than other people and its another to recognise your own worth and strengths alongside other people’s. There is nothing wrong with liking who you are and valuing yourself and building self esteem helps us to feel this way.

SUPPORT WE CAN OFFER AT GOLDDIGGER TRUST

At Golddigger Trust we have the I’m the Girl I Want To Be course for girls and the Made of More course for boys. In groups of young people and leaders we take a look at the pressures that might be on us (as boys or as girls) to be and act a certain way. Do we have to listen to all of those messages? Can we ignore a lot of the expectations thrown at us? Are some of those to blame for our self esteem being worse than it should be?
